Windows 11 Release Date and Price

On June 24th, 2021, Microsoft confirmed that Windows 11 will be a free update for all Windows 10 users and will start rolling out later this year (2021) and continue into 2022.

Microsoft says that it expects to begin shipping new Windows 11 PCs this fall (2021).

Use Microsoft’s PC Health Check app to see if your current PC meets the requirements to run Windows 11. If so, you can get the free upgrade when it rolls out.

The upgrade to Windows 11 will also be optional, meaning Windows 10 users can remain on Windows 10 until support is dropped in 2025.

Questions (and Answers) about Windows 11

Below are some questions from Microsoft’s Frequently Asked Questions list (FAQ) that I thought were important to mention. You can see the full FAQ list on the Microsoft PC Health App page.

Differences between Windows 10 and Windows 11

Windows 11 has all the power and security of Windows 10 with a redesigned and refreshed look. It also comes with new tools, sounds, and apps. Every detail has been considered. All of it comes together to bring you a refreshing experience on your PC.

Will my Accessories work with Windows 11?

If your accessories worked with Windows 10 and meet the Windows 11 requirements, they should work with Windows 11. If you want to be sure, please check with your accessory manufacturer.

My recommendation to clients is to always verify that any non-Microsoft software will work with a newer version of Windows (Windows 11 in this case) BEFORE you upgrade. The same goes for all of your printers, scanners, cameras, and other accessories you may connect to your Windows PC.

I want to buy a PC now, will I be able to install Windows 11 later?

Most Windows 10 PCs currently being sold will be able to upgrade to Windows 11. For the PC to be able to upgrade to Windows 11, it must meet the minimum hardware specifications and specific hardware is required for some features. The upgrade rollout plan is still being finalized but is scheduled to begin late in 2021 and continue into 2022. Specific timing will vary by device.

Can I stay with Windows 10?

Yes! Windows 10 continues to be a great version of Windows. You do not have to upgrade to Windows 11. We have committed to supporting Windows 10 through October 14, 2025.
